Seaver College Celebrates Community, Belonging, and Culture at 15th Annual Loqui Ceremony

Loqui 2025

On Friday, May 2, 2025, ߣߣƵ University celebrated Loqui, a yearly celebration honoring the many cultures represented among graduating seniors, their achievements, and the community members who foster and deepen ߣߣƵ’s collective sense of belonging. Organized by and hosted in the annual ceremony is rooted in the University's Christian mission and focuses on the themes of purpose, service, and leadership. Since its inaugural year in 2011, Loqui has been a meaningful tradition at Seaver College. This year’s ceremony hosted more than 300 attendees—including students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, and families—and featured student performances, personal reflections, and a special presentation by the Korean Classical Music and Dance Company. The event also recognized two students, in addition to faculty and staff members, for their exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing a vibrant community of belonging on campus and their commitment to Christian values.

ߣߣƵ president Jim Gash (JD ’93) opened the ceremony by welcoming the audience and expressing his admiration for the individuals being honored. He emphasized the positive impact these community members have made in living out the University’s mission.

“Each of you has been made for a purpose. You have a unique calling in life that only you can fulfill,” said President Gash. “You're here today because you have walked out your unique calling during your time here at ߣߣƵ, and our community has been better for it. I am confident that the same will be true as you leave here and venture out into the world. Wherever you go, your presence will make the community better for it.”

This year’s student honorees included Seaver College seniors Nicole Sylvia-Ann Fashaw and Mirna Sophoclis, who both received the Bowers, Davis, and Todd Awards for Leadership in Diversity and Inclusive Excellence.

Fashaw has held several leadership roles at ߣߣƵ including vice president of the Inter-Club Council, Black Student Association, and SOUL Diversity and Inclusion, in addition to working three on-campus jobs. She is a recipient of the Equity and Social Justice Foundational Scholarship and, under professor Kendrick Roberson’s mentorship, has worked as a researcher in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program. After graduation, Fashaw plans to pursue her passion as a music producer, artist, and pianist while continuing to advocate for social justice.

“Receiving this award represents both what I have done and who I have become to cement my impact and legacy at this University,” shares Fashaw. “Above all, my relationship with God has grounded and guided me throughout it all. I’m walking away with far more than I came in with—relationships, leadership growth in both public and private settings, practical life skills, a deeper education, and most importantly, a strengthened faith. My experience at ߣߣƵ has been a dream.”
